(Acts of Kindness)
Record Kind Acts Here 365
Days a Year!
Be a Part of the Movement
To Create a Better World Through Positive Action!
This is a site, created by the martial arts community, to
record and track acts of kindness people do for each other. The 911 in our
name refers to the fact that this program was born out of the catastrophe of
September 11, 2001 --and that we are seeking to have September 11 of every year
designated as an Acts of Kindness Day.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then an action
is worth a thousand pictures.
Martial Arts Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee
We encourage you to TAKE ACTION on the idea of kindness
towards others. Perform random and purposeful acts of kindness and respect
towards other people and then record them on this site. Make each act of
kindness like a vote a vote for what is good and right about the human spirit.
Lets make it our first goal to, together, perform a million acts of kindness in
honor of every man, woman, and child that lost their life on September 11th,
2001. After that goals accomplished, well tackle changing the world (but first
things first!).
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed
citizens can change the world. Indeed,
its the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead
Let us, as motivational speaker Zig Ziglar might say, Turn
lemons into lemonade. Lets take the memory of a terrible day and make it
become something extraordinarily wonderful. Lets make 9/11 a celebration of
kindness! The martial arts community is proposing that 9/11 become ACTS OF
KINDNESS DAY for this coming year and forevermore.
To cast your votes for this idea, log in on this site and
record your daily acts of kindness. Lets see how many we can do on 9/11/2005
and how many we can accumulate in the days between every 9/11.
Together, we can turn the tide of negativity and pain that
began on that day. Lets focus our minds and energy on doing kind things for
each other and together we WILL change the world for the better.
Who Can Participate and
What Can You Do?
You can register as a group or as an individual. Register
your martial arts school, business, club or classroom--and then you and your
members can log in and record kind acts. This site will keep a total going of
your efforts and the efforts of everyone who participates in the program. Were
in the process of having the site translated into Russian, Korean, Japanese,
Farsi, and any other language we can (if you would like to spearhead this
program in another country, contact us!). Anyone, of any age, can register on
the site and start adding to the kind acts total.
Every kind act counts, so whether you say hello and smile
at someone you might have typically ignored, help someone out with something
theyre trying to accomplish, open a door for someone, or donate your time to a
good cause, RECORD IT.
From the simple gesture to the profound and generous
donation of time, energy, and resources, EVERY KIND ACT COUNTS.
What www.911aok is Not
This in NOT a commercial event! There are no funds to raise
and nothing to sell. Your e-mail address will not be distributed. This is the
martial arts community turning our philosophy of respect --for self and others
--into ACTION! The movement is being launched in honor of those who perished on
9/11/2001 --and for all martial arts masters, instructors, and their students,
both past and present.
Why Were Doing This (a letter)
For Americans --and perhaps for most citizens of the world
--September 11, 2001 was a horrible, tragic day. For many, it was something
even beyond a tragedy; it was, to this day, a nearly unbelievable event and for
some souls it changed the very color of the sky, the smell of summer, and the
sound of laughter.
While still numb from the images and ramifications of 9/11,
many people sought to help each other. We looked for something, anything, we
could do. Perhaps the only really good thing that came out of 9/11 is the
kindness that people showed each other following the event. A handful of men
found a way to destroy four airplanes, the twin towers, and the lives of several
thousand people, but they could not destroy our spirit.
The ultimate tribute to 9/11, in our opinion, would be to
turn that horrific day into a tribute to the spirit of America, indeed to the
spirit of good that manifests itself in any human being, regardless of what
country they reside in.
This site and this project are the first steps in our
personal campaign to start a wave --no, a tsunami, of kindness among people not
just in the United States, but on the planet Earth.
