Howard Jackson

The martial arts community has lost a great champion, a great pioneer and a great individual. It is with sadness and sorrow that we report the passing of 2003 Hall of Famer, Howard Jackson. Howard passed away on March 7, 2006 at the City of Hope hospital in Duarte, CA. Howard was a person who loved life and was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Howard Jackson was a point fighting champion, a full-contact champion and a boxing champion. He was one of the few pioneers who was able to cross-over in different arenas and be successful in all three of them. Though he will be remembered by many as a champion, I will always remember him as my friend. Howard was a man of integrity and honesty. He expressed his strong support for the Museum because he felt it was the right thing to do. I will be forever thankful to Howard for his kindness, his inspiration, his committment and his wonderful attitude about life. It is with great sadness that I express my sorrow and remorse for the loss of Howard Jackson. What a wonderful man, and what a great example he was to black belts around the world. I had the pleasure of sitting down and having dinner with him in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I cannot tell you a better man that would treat you with more respect and courtesy than Howard Jackson did. He actually sat down at the table with us after eating, and started singing for my wife and I. I have followed Howard Jackson"s career since the early 70s. I had the Greatest honor of meeting Mr.Jackson when I was 10 years old. Being the oldest of three daughters our father being one of the great Martial Arts Pioneers Sam Price of the Midwest(hutchinson,ks).We traveled the country every weekend to any tournament that my father could find.We ended up in california. Master Jackson"s sparring tips in a seminar I was privileged to attend in Clearwater, FL, mad the difference in gaining eligibility to test for 4th dan. I was only one face in a crowd at that seminar, but when I encountered him at a convention a year later and thanked him, he gave me a hug as if we had known each other all our lives.
