Reza Ghasry
Master Reza Ghasry began practicing martial arts at the age of nine in Tehran, Iran and won his first national title in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 16 in 1983. He went on to win two more Iranian national titles in 1984 and 1985 and two Canadian national titles in 1990 and 1991 after immigrating to Canada. During his years as a competitor, he competed in a variety of national and international events and represented both Iran and Canada at the World Tae Kwon Do championships. Upon retiring from competition, Master Ghasry became a Canadian national team coach, winning the National Coach of the Year in 1997. In 1998 he was the head coach of Camp Olympia in Ontario, Canada and he was recruited for coaching by the World kanzen budo kai Association in the U.S. In 1999 he was inducted into the Canadian Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Between 1993 and 2006 Master Ghasry opened and operated two successful martial arts schools in Toronto, Ontario (Canada): The Ghasry Academy of Martial Arts and Champion Martial Arts Centre. Beginning in 2004, Master Ghasry also began working regularly as the technical commentator for FoxTV’s ShinDo Kumate world Kickboxing Championships and in 2005 published his first book called Michael’s First Class. In 2006 he relocated to Los Angeles, California and opened Champion Spirit Martial Arts, a private martial arts training studio in Beverly Hills (www.championsspirit.com). He currently holds the rank of 7th degree black belt and is the Director and Head Instructor of Champion Spirit. He also contributes as a regular columnist to Martialinfo.com and is working on a full-length book project about the martial arts.
