Randy Edwards

Randy Edwards
Randy Edwards was born in Springdale on July 18, 1966. Mr. Edwards’ mother and father are Jerry and Faye Edwards. At the age of five, his family moved to Harrison so his father could continue his career as a law enforcement officer. In March of 1985, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee to manage two Taekwon-Do schools. After managing over four hundred active students in Memphis, he moved to Fayetteville to open his own Taekwon-Do academy. Mr. Edwards has two beautiful daughters, named Sidney and Devon. Mr. Edwards began his study of Taekwon-Do with Mr. Troy Burleson, at the age of seventeen as a senior in high school. Right out of high school athletics, there were not a lot of things that he found that could take the place of the excitement of high school football and track. After work on December 3rd, 1983, several friends invited Mr. Edwards to go try out a free Taekwon-Do class. Eight of them joined the class that night. After training for one year, Mr. Burleson asked him if he would like to start teaching the Taekwon-Do class for him. Before attaining his first-degree black belt in March of 1985, Mr. Edwards had accumulated 342 teaching hours at the Harrison Taekwon-do School. Mr. Edwards has traveled nationally and internationally in Taekwon-Do competition. In October of 1993, Mr. Edwards, as a member of the USA Taekwon-Do team, won a gold medal in power breaking at the Taekwon-Do World Championships in Moscow, Russia. That is the most coveted medal in a martial arts event to be the most powerful kicker! Mr. Edwards also placed second in team forms competition and team jump kicking in Russia. In May of 1995, Mr. Edwards received a gold medal in the high jump kick competition. This world championship was held in Caglari, Italy. Mr. Edwards jumped 9 feet 7 inches and broke a wooden target. At that time, the world record was 9 feet 8 ½ inches. He also received medals in team forms and sparring in Italy. Mr. Edwards has been rated the number two 18 to 35 year old third degree and above black belt competitor in the United States Taekwon-Do Federation from 1993 until 2001. 2001 and 2002 he became the number one Taekwon-Do competitor. In July of 2002, Mr. Edwards and several of his instructors and students traveled to Toronto, Canada to compete in the 2002 Taekwon-do World Championships. Mr. Edwards was chosen to be the team captain for the men’s USA Taekwon-Do team. Mr. Edwards brought home a gold medal in power kicking, another gold in forms, a silver in forms, and a bronze in team sparring. He tried out and made the current USA Taekwon-Do team which competed in Orlando in July of this year. The team brought home three gold and one silver medal. Mr. Edwards also won two gold medals in the individuals and got the tournament MVP by winning the most gold medals of anyone in the tournament. He has been the team martial arts instructor for the U of A Football team for the past three seasons. Mr. Edwards works with the football team to increase their mental focus, hand speed, coordination, flexibility, and explosive strength. Mr. Edwards is a regional director for the United States Taekwon-Do Federation. He also has students teaching Taekwon-Do across Arkansas and Tennessee. Mr. Edwards plays golf and has been a volunteer police officer since 1990.
